The Myth of “Someday”

The Time We Have

If you’re anything like most people, your days probably feel full — sometimes too full. You tell yourself that once things “settle down,” you’ll slow your pace, call that friend, or finally start that thing you’ve been putting off.

But the truth is, life rarely slows down on its own. The weeks keep coming, one after another, until we realize that the things we meant to make time for somehow never made it onto the calendar.

Time isn’t something we can stretch or control, but we can choose how present we are within it. When we remember that our time is finite, we begin to live more fully — not from fear, but from clarity.

Making Peace with Time

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) offers a mindful way to live with greater presence and purpose, even when life feels uncertain. At its core, ACT teaches that peace doesn’t come from controlling time, but from changing how we relate to it.

Rather than fighting the discomfort that arises when we feel rushed or limited, acceptance invites us to make room for it, recognizing that tension is part of being human. Defusion helps us step back from our thoughts, like “I’m behind” or “There’s never enough time”, and see them as passing mental events — not facts that define us.

From this space, we can reconnect with our values, the qualities that make life meaningful: love, creativity, growth, connection. When we anchor to what truly matters, our choices become clearer. And through committed action, taking small and consistent steps aligned with those values, we begin living more fully in real time, rather than waiting for “someday” to arrive.

Practical Strategies

ACT isn’t just a framework for understanding life’s challenges — it’s a practice for living them differently. The goal isn’t to eliminate discomfort or control time, but to meet your experiences with openness and intention. Each small act of awareness, acceptance, and values-based choice strengthens your ability to live in alignment rather than avoidance. The following practices draw from ACT principles to help you bring this awareness into daily life in ways that make your week feel a little more like your own.

  1. Name and Notice
When you catch yourself saying, “I don’t have time,” pause. Take a slow breath and notice what feelings arise beneath that thought. Awareness begins the moment you name it.

  2. Clarify What Matters
Write down three values you want to embody this week — such as presence, connection, or creativity.

  3. Take One Small Action
Choose one action that reflects a value you named, something small enough to do today. Then do it, even imperfectly.

  4. End the Day with Gratitude
Each night, recall one moment where you felt aligned with your values. Let that be proof that meaning is already happening in real time.

A reflection for this week

What are you postponing for “later”? What might change if you treated this week, not as one more blur on the calendar, but as one small, sacred piece of your life?

Clearing the Debris: Mental Health in Real Estate with Charan Bashir

I recently joined Sumina Bhatti on her podcast, “The Rested and Rich Real Estate Agent” to discuss a theme that shows up in my work with therapy and coaching clients — the tension between how success is defined externally and how we define it for ourselves.

Here a snapshot of what we got into:

  • Freedom Reframed — What does financial freedom mean to you?

  • The Pressure to Perform — No matter the discipline, you will have a pressure to perform, what happens when you don’t buy into it?

  • Clearing the Debris — Navigating the emotional debris that quietly blocks your path

  • Redefining Success — What matters the most to you, actually?

  • The Space Between — Slowing down to recognize moments of rest and connection

This is a conversation about burnout, authenticity, and reclaiming success on your own terms! Use the link below to listen now and thank you for being a part of this community. My hope is that this conversation gives you a moment of reflection — and maybe the permission — to step off the performance treadmill and reconnect with what matters most to you.
